Q: Where are the ships today?
A:
The Scholar Ship, ex Kungsholm, will be sailing for RCL as a floating university starting autumn of. 2007. During the summer of 2007, she is sailing as the Oceanic II.
The Sea, ex Gripsholm, sank at 05h00 local (South African) time, on July 12, 2001, under tow to India, 83 miles SSE of Cape Recife on the Cape south coast.
The Stockholm of 1948, totally refurbished, sails as the Athena.

Two of Kungsholm's original tenders are presently operating in the Cardiff Bay, under the ownership of The Cardiff Waterbus. A third tender sails on Loch Lomond. Captain Ben Salter of Cardiff, reports that he has found the fourth, elusive tender, now Christened Princess Marcel, in Co. Kildare in Ireland.

Q: How can I find my Swedish ancestors?
A: The Swedish sovereigns have been very keen on keeping track of their subjects, and the Church of Sweden has kept records of the inhabitants of every parish for hundreds of years. It's therefore possible to find Church records of births, marriages, deaths, household members (including servants), and migration from one parish to another, back to the seventeenth century. The records of interest are handwritten in Swedish, and not very easy to interprete. The House of Genealogy in Leksand (Dalecarlia), Sweden, has microfilmed all Swedish Church records, and can offer assistance.
