Second Purser Ingvar Torstensson

Page 1

Ingvar Torstensson was born in Söderhamn, Sweden. After having worked for Scandinavian Airlines and their general agent in Liberia, Ingvar began his life at sea in 1964 as Chief Purser on board Stella Polaris, a small highly rated Swedish ship.

Ingvar joined the Swedish American Line in 1970 on board Kungsholm. He stayed until the ship was sold in 1975. During his time on board he served in different positions in the Purser Office and was later promoted to 2 Purser, substituting as Chief Purser.

In 1976 he joined Norwegian America Line's Sagafjord and Vistafjord as Hotel Manager, rotating between the ships. In 1981 Ingvar was permanently assigned to Sagafjord.

Ingvar retired in 1996 and is now living in Pompano Beach Florida together with his wife Meredith, former Cruise Sales Manager on the Sagafjord. In the summertime he is still visiting Soderhamn where he maintains a summer house in the archipelago.

During his time at sea Ingvar made 25 World Cruises on Kungsholm and Sagafjord.
