Passenger Database

Find Passenger Lists and Crew Lists on Ancestry.com

Through Ancestry.com I found my grandmother's cousin Arvid Norling
in this passenger list for the Kungsholm's departure from Göteborg
on March 15 1923, plus this list below, showing his arrival in NYC.

You can find many passenger and crew lists on Ancestry.com, (but not all).
I also found information about Arvid's siblings Richard and Fanny Norling,
who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1920's.

And I found my great uncle Karl Arvid Norling's US draft record for WWI,
plus several crew lists from other ships he worked on.

You can find records of births, and deaths from Sweden and the United States.
The historical documents at ancestry.com can show family members, occupations,
birth and marriage dates, addresses, and more for your ancestors. With billions of records, ancestry.com has the largest online collection of genealogical documents anywhere in the world.

Immigration Collection

The Göteborgs-Emigranten Foundation is creating a database of all SAL Passengers leaving and arriving in Göteborg.

A new CD-ROM has been presented, and this one is of great interest to everybody with emigrants from Sweden during the time period 1869–1930. The CD is a joint project by Göteborgs-Emigranten, The Provincial Archives of Göteborg, The Swedish Emigrant Institute, Växjö, and the Emigrantregistret/Kinship House of Karlstad, and contains four different databases. Since the database includes arrivals to Sweden, even emigrants who left Sweden before the SAL era, and came back in 1915 or later, will be in the database - with information of their address in USA or Canada.
Read more about the database here: Swedish Emigrant CD.

Ther are many immigrant records at the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, Augustana College, Rock Island, IL.

The New York Passenger Lists Quick Guide 1820-1957 lists research material for locating New York, New York passenger arrival records.

Also, see the passenger list transcribes by the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild.

Resandemannen.se has this information about what you can find about SAL at the Regional Archives in Gothenburg:
The SAL archive comprises 25 shelf meters of the Regional Archives, in addition to all the ship related documents, drawings and such, stored at the Maritime Museum in Gothenburg. Among the contents are inspection reports, accounts, stock books and printed Passenger Lists 1915-1971. from all voyages between Gothenburg and North America (excluding "emigrant class" passengers).
